Frequently Asked Questions About Brows

+ What are the different brow services offered?

  • Microblading is a permanent makeup procedure that allows artists to correct, enhance, or fully reconstruct an eyebrow. Microblading is performed by manually depositing pigment under the top layer of the skin using a special hand tool; it does not involve the use of a machine. Microblading is comprised of individual, crisp hair strokes that are more natural-looking than traditional permanent makeup.

  • Microblading is best suited for young, healthy, normal/dry skin.

  • A Combination Brow is the combination of both Microblading and Machine Shading. Machine Shading deposits pigment throughout the brow in tiny, pixelated dots. This can increase the density of color if more is desired or needed than that which is provided by hairstrokes alone.

  • Combination Brow is well-suited for most skin types.

  • Powder brows are done with a rotary machine to deposit pigment throughout the brow in tiny, pixelated dots. Machine shading is buildable and can be soft and powdery, or more layers can be added to give a more saturated or bold brow. Powder brows will typically have the longest retention and best long-term results.

  • Powder Brows are well-suited for almost all skin types. Powder brows are the best option for mature/aging and/or oily skin.

+ How Long Do the Results Last?

  • Microblading is considered semi-permanent and is designed to fade over time. Without maintenance/touch ups, the pigment will remain visible anywhere from 1 to 3 years, depending on the individual. “Color Boost” touch ups every 1.5 - 3 years are normal and expected for permanent cosmetics.

  • Final results cannot be guaranteed as all individuals are unique and heal differently. Hair strokes may heal more crisp on dryer skin types, and oily skin types may fade more quickly and/or can blur. Studio K Microblading includes a perfecting touch up appointment 6-12 weeks following the initial appointment. During this follow-up appointment, your skin’s pigment retention will be assessed, and any necessary adjustments will be made.

+ what factors will affect my Microblading?

  • Oily Skin: increased oil production can cause hair-strokes to blur and heal lighter and powdery.

  • Smoking: smokers may notice that their Microblading will fade faster.

  • Anemia and Iron Deficiency: Your body may absorb the pigments more quickly.

  • Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading and pigment color alteration. You will want to use a special sunscreen on your brows. We recommend InkGuard (can be found on Amazon.)

  • Age and Metabolism: The faster your metabolism, the faster the pigment will fade.

  • Bleeding During the Procedure: Excessive bleeding during your appointment will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow pre-care instructions to minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood-thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine before your appointment.

  • Skin Treatments: Chemical peels, lasers, topical retinoids, anti-acne, exfoliating, and anti-aging products will cause the pigment to fade more quickly.

+ Is Microblading Painful?

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but you will be numbed multiple times during your appointment to keep you comfortable. Two different topical numbing agents are used; one is used before the actual procedure, and the other is used throughout the procedure. On a scale of 1 to 10, Microblading is a 1 or 2 for the average person; some clients even fall asleep. Having the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity.

+ How long does an appointment last?

  • Please allow three hours to complete your initial appointment.
  • Please allow two hours to complete your 6-12 week touch up.

+ What kind of pigments are used?

  • All pigments are non-toxic, vegan, cruelty-free, gamma-ray sterilized, and FDA-approved. The ingredients are a combination of pigments, glycerin, witch hazel, isopropyl alcohol, aqua, rosin, and DMDM hydantoin. All ingredients can be found in the MSDS and can be downloaded from the website HERE.
  • All other materials, with the exception of the topical lidocaine numbing agents, are naturally-derived and toxin-free. I pride myself on using the best quality materials while not risking my clients' long-term health with toxic ingredients.

+ What will I look like after my procedure?

Your brows will appear darker and bigger than expected for the first few days. The color and edges will gradually lighten by about 50 percent during the complete healing process, and the overall size will shrink. Minor scabbing and flaking may be present for 10 to 14+ days following the procedure.

+ Do I need to take a day off work?

There is no downtime associated with the treatment. Redness and swelling will dissipate within an hour following the procedure. Your brows will appear darker initially, but not so dark that you will be prevented from your day-to-day activities. So no, you do not need to take time off of work unless you choose to take time off to schedule your appointment(s).

+ What should I do to prepare for my Appointment?

  • Leave your eyebrows alone for a week before your appointment (no tweezing, waxing, or removing hair); this allows me to see your natural hair growth patterns. Waxing or tweezing too closely to your appointment will also open pores, which could absorb unwanted pigment during the Microblading process.
  • You may come to your appointment with or without makeup. Sometimes it helps to see how you like to draw on your eyebrows, but pictures can be used as well. If you like the way you fill in your brows and/or like the color when they’re filled in, please bring your brow makeup with you.

    The following MUST BE AVOIDED:

  • 5-7 days prior to your appointment: Ibuprofen, Aspirin, and Vitamin E/Fish Oil
  • 24 hours prior to your appointment: alcohol
  • 12 hours prior to your appointment: caffeine (including “decaffeinated” coffee and teas)
  • Day of your appointment: exercise/working out
  • If these guidelines are not followed, it will cause increased bleeding and may dilute the pigment and have a negative effect on your desired results

+ What Should I do after the procedure?

  • After-care may vary slightly for each client depending on skin type and any underlying factors. Follow the post-procedure instructions provided at your appointment. I do encourage gently washing the brow area, as it is a “wound”, and I want to minimize the risk of infection. I provide all after-care products along with instructions.
  • When showering and washing your face, do not fully submerge your brows in water. Avoid haircare, skincare, and makeup getting in or right near your brows. Be gentle with your new brows, especially when sleeping and getting dressed. Minor scabbing/flaking may be present for 10 to 14+ days following the procedure. During this time, take care not to scratch, rub, and/or pick at your brow area, as this can remove pigment and put healing at risk.

+ What is the Recovery Time?

While the brows are not required to be bandaged or covered following the procedure, the brows will take about 10 to 14+ days to fully heal. Expect your brows to temporarily soften in color by up to 50 percent. During this period, after-care guidelines should be carefully followed.

+ What is a perfecting Touch Up appointment?

  • This appointment takes place 6-12 weeks following your initial appointment and is extremely important to ensure desired results. This appointment sets the shape and color, and it is the perfecting opportunity to make any small adjustments (if needed). Most clients require minor modifications to the darkness of pigment as well as adjustments to brow thickness and density. You will go through the same healing and aftercare process as you did with your initial appointment. After this appointment, rather than your brows softening in color by up to 50%, your brows will only soften in color around 10%. You retain much more pigment after your perfecting touch up, which is one of the main reasons this appointment is so important.
  • To maintain the integrity and shape of the brow, we recommend a Color Boost appointment once every 1.5 - 3 years.

+ Can I Receive Treatment If I am Pregnant?

As a precaution, I do not perform services on pregnant women. I recommend waiting at least three months after delivery to allow hormones to regulate, as hormones can affect retention.

+ You cannot receive Microblading if you are:

  • Pregnant
  • Currently using Accutane or have used Accutane within the past year
  • Have a freshly tanned/sunburned face
  • Are on blood-thining medications or antibiotics
  • Have Rosacea or Psoriasis in or near brows
  • Are currently undergoing cancer treatment (must be off chemo or radiation for 6 months)

+ What should I not do following the procedure?

  • You are advised to keep the skin clean and dry (other than provided aftercare materials) throughout the healing process (10-14+ days). Avoiding the following activities or areas is required to achieve desired results: swimming, sweating, direct contact with water in the brow area, direct sun exposure, picking the eyebrows, wearing makeup ON your brows, hot tubs, steam rooms/saunas, tanning beds, and areas with high humidity.
  • Because you are required to avoid things such as direct sunlight, swimming, sweating, etc., it is expected for you to keep vacations and other activities in mind when booking your appointment.

+ Can I Continue Using Botox or Retin-A?

No Botox can be administered 14 days prior to or following your appointment. I also require that you stop any Retin-A products at least 30 days prior to your appointment.

+ Do I need a consultation prior to booking an appointment?

I include a consultation in every initial appointment. At this time, I do not offer separate consultation appointments. If you have a specific question or concern, you are welcome to email studiokmicroblading@gmail.com. I book enough time to discuss your wants/needs at your initial appointment. If you are in need of correction work or have had your brows microbladed/tattooed elsewhere, you will need to send photos of your brows before booking; this way I can schedule adequate time for your appointment. I do not accept all clients who have had their brows done elsewhere; I may recommend removal first.

+ I have had Microblading/Brow Tattooing before. Can you fix them/touch them up?

I require that anyone who has had their brows done previously by another artist send me pictures before booking an appointment. This way we can discuss whether or not you can be accepted as a client and schedule sufficient time. Any client coming to me from a different artist is considered a new client (with full prices.)

+ Do you guarantee your work?

No. But I can guarantee that your satisfaction is my number one priority and that I will act in accordance with my experience and skill to do everything within my ability to help you achieve your desired results. I can guarantee that I will strive for your satisfaction and comfort from initial consultation to the final healing process. Because everyone’s skin takes the pigment differently, there are no guarantees regarding the results of Microblading procedures.

+ How Do I Book an Appointment?

  • Sessions are by appointment only and are scheduled online. The booking link can be found at the top of my website or by clicking here.
  • You MUST be approved as a client before your appointment request will be accepted. To be approved, you must send in pictures of your brows and a picture or explanation of your desired outcome. Pictures can be sent to studiokmicroblading@gmail.com. This is to ensure that I am the right artist for you and that I can meet your expectations.
  • Your 6-12 week touch-up/perfecting appointment will be scheduled in person during your initial appointment.

+ Can I Bring a Friend, Significant Other, or Family Member?

At this time, you may not bring anyone with you to your appointment.

+ What payment methods are accepted & should I tip?

Cash is preferred (as it reduces card processing fees,) but all major credit/debit cards are accepted. Tipping is not expected, but it is always appreciated!

Please also review our policies before booking an appointment.
